What We Do

Tucson MVS partners with area nonprofits and community-based organizations to serve our community’s needs and work toward social justice.

The relationship between volunteers and service placements is at the heart of our mission.

Tucson MVS strives to create an environment in which everyone grows and benefits from our program; the placement organizations, the volunteers, and our local community.

We are also excited by the prospect of helping to train future leaders and passionate people who will move on from the program and continue to serve and spread seeds of justice wherever they may go.

What we do:

  • Tucson MVS works with local nonprofits and community agencies to find placements for volunteers

  • We post placement descriptions and work with potential volunteers to find a suitable match

  • Previous participants have served with migrant and refugee services, built wheelchair ramps while doing housing and home repair, planted gardens with the community food bank, led border tours, taught with literacy and English language programs, and helped with administrative work in low income health centers.

  • Volunteers serve somewhere between 32-36 hours/week at their placement while Tucson MVS provides transportation options, a modest stipend, as well as worker’s compensation, liability, and health coverage (when needed)

  • Tucson MVS covers housing and food costs for volunteers

  • Throughout the year Tucson MVS checks in with placement agencies and our volunteers to make sure the service is meeting expectations for both parties

  • Our support committee and local program director meet regularly to make sure that everyone is supported and the program is running smoothly
